Hey everyone!

Christmas is coming up, and I have a crapload of stuff to do- we are talking hats, scarves, and a few pieces of art for those closest to me. Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that we are busy, that is why we haven't been able to like, post or write anything really for a little while. As soon as I get Christmas presents done, I will start working on stuff to go on etsy (and finishing orders :D). So, be patient with us!

Kay, so, my last class was today. I have a few finals next week, and then I am free!

Morgan= Your gloves are just about finished.
Selena= Your black beanie is done. It's gonna need to be worn a few times, to stretch it out, but other than that, it looks awesome.
Kristine= I haven't gotten your yarn yet. As soon as I finish Morgan's gloves, I will go for another yarn run.
Rachel's friend Andy= I don't have the yarn for you yet either. When I go for Kristine's yarn, I will get yours.
Sarai= We will discuss your dress when you come over.

Am I missing anyone? Just sold another order today.

Anyways, I'm totally psyched, because I came up with a BUNCH of new things to try making. It'll be awesome. I will have many many many things to sell on Etsy. I'm so excited :D

Okay, so I have now decided that instead of making custom clothes, I am just going to start out making stuff and people can buy whatever they like. Doing custom stuff is so hard, haha.

BUT... the stuff I will be making will still be freakin' awesome and one of a kind, so it's a win-win situation.

I do need to know how many people would want prom dresses, though. I don't wanna make those and then have them sit around without anyone buying them.

Okay, yeah, so I know that a fashion line should have a legitimate website and stuff, but I just love this blog so much!

We will figure out a website once we have a running fanbase.
We will have an etsy up as soon as we have merchandise (I hate that word) in stock.

We are not sure what exactly we will be making yet. We have been talking about not only the hats, gloves, scarves, etc, along with jewelry, but screenprinted t-shirts and bags or something. Maybe even Mukluks.
Dresses too, but those will not be as well stocked considering they take a crapload more time, and because only one of us can actually sew. Either way, it will be awesome.

Things will start getting stocked come Christmas break (Dec 11-Jan 19).

So, until then, everyone order stuff! We can do jewelry and winter stuff custom right now.
Just ask!

I've been working on some jewelry for Octopie, too. I've got I think 2 necklaces and 3 (going on 4) bracelets. Here are some pics. I'll be making more, but let me know if anyone's interestedd.

Bonjour, mes amis!

The week is on it's way out and I am just over 1/2-2/3rds of the way done with the dresses. I am still working on crochet orders during class, so those are still getting done. Three down, four to go!

If anyone wants to order anything, let me know! I have more than enough time, and I don't particularly want to be without something to make during class. It helps me concentrate.

So... here is the link for hat styles: http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/hats.php
and the link for glove styles: http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/mittens_gloves.php

I haven't made gloves yet, but I am pretty sure I can do them. Just let me know which ones you want.
Also, I need to know the color(s) you want.
Each hat will probably be around $15 bucks, unless it was super easy to make and used less materials.
Gloves will probably be like, $10 dollars.
I can do scarves too, and so can Amanda, so just let us know.

We can take jewelry orders for the trademark Octopie necklaces too. I am not sure how much it would be at this point because they were not made yet. The dude that is making them is not back from college yet. But they will be made soon, so let me know if you want a necklace.

We also now have an Octopie fan page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Octopie/194740673277?ref=ts
and a Twitter: http://twitter.com/octopiecouture

Questions? Comments?

Hey everyone!
Octopie is well under way. The next week will be a little stressful for me as I have to make two dresses for Rachel and my (grammar check?) winter formal something-or-another. Even so, I have two orders out of the way and working on a third. Keep them coming, guys! For now I can only do scarves/hats/probably gloves because those are the only things I can do in class, but by December I will be able to do a lot of other stuff. Pictures of our dresses will be up as soon as they are finished. They are gonna be awesome :)

I love this dress :)
I am not quite sure of the designer, but he/she has created a masterpiece. The corset top is awesome. I love corset tops because they totally shape you, whereas tight satin can often show fattening aspects. The skirt is so cute too. I am not sure what i think of the half and half thing, like half ruffles and half not ruffles. I kind of like it, but it is also kind of confusing. It might be better if the front opened up to ruffles instead. Either way, the dress is gorgeous. It reminds me a little of my prom dress, except this one totally has more fluffiness, which is awesome.
I love the model, and that the dress matches the natural coloring of the model. Everything matches.
So, yeah. If anyone needs a prom/homecoming dress, I will TOTALLY make it, for a price. It is my favorite thing to do!

I'm going to be taking up knitting again, so if anyone would like a scarf or a hat, just let me know. I'm not sure of what the price will be, probably the same price as Jess' crocheted hats and gloves.

First I'll start off doing solid colors, then when I feel adventurous enough, I'll try stripes and other patterns.

Zach is going to be making Octopie some necklaces to sell. At first they will only be silver ones similar to this one
<
but later on when I make some real sketches, there will be other necklaces.
Any takers?

attention:

if anyone wants Bella's gloves from Twilight, I can make them. I just need to get a set of #8 circular 24" needles and a set of #8 double-pointed needles.
So, all you Twi-hards will have to wait.
I feel your pain.

Jess

Would anyone want an octopie necklace too? It would be nice to know so that we can figure out how many need to be made. It could be made in silver, wood, granite, etc. Not sure what the price would be just yet.

If anyone is interested in a crochet hat or pair of gloves, I will start making those. I will probably charge somewhere from 8-15 dollars per item because they are home-made/custom made and one-of-a-kind.
Maybe I will even try making mukluks. Who knows.
Anyways, yeah. Here is a website that I get patterns off, and I am not sure what I could make off of it yet because so far I have only made the Alaska Beret, but I will make anything on there that someone wants. I will need what specific color the person wants too. The hats should stretch to an extent, but they are made in normal sizes anyways.

P.S. These are pictures of the Alaska Beret I made the other day during classes. The yarn is actually a weird dark blue-green, but the coloring of the picture is off.

Here is the website: http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/hats.php
Or you could just google "free crochet patterns" or something. Just let me know, we can talk it out.

Jess

One of my favorite scenes in Twilight is when all the Cullens file into the cafeteria. I love how the costume designers gave them complementing white outfits, further setting them apart from the rest of the students. But, well, they might have tried a little too hard to be matchy.

All of the clothes in Twilight are subtly delicious. Certainly Bella's clothing is not attention-seeking, and yet I couldn't help whispering to my friend,"I want that!" throughout the film. And Edward's clothes are so classy, not like the lazy way most boys dress themselves. Alice's outfit as she made her entrance into the Cullen's house from a tree branch completely fits her character. So in case you couldn't tell, I'm wayy psyched for New Moon!

Rachel

I am not fond of Anne Hathaway but this dress is gorgeous. I love the studs because they add a bit of drama to a cutesy dress.

Jess

I couldn't help myself.
I love Kristen and Rob as a couple, and Kristen has like, the best style ever. Not to mention she is another one of those actresses/models that does not look like a normal actress/model. Of course, Rob is gorgeous too.
The outfits in the roses picture are my favorite. I love love love Rob's outfit, especially with the leather jacket. It makes the dress pants and tie and stuff look a little more normal. Kristen's skirt is awesome, and I think the top is velvet, which is so cute. I love the shoes, very classy. I kind of laughed at the fact that they were laying in roses in a way reminiscent of in Twilight when they were laying in the meadow. Just putting that out there.

And by the way, the dress she is wearing in two of the pictures looks like a trash bag.

I adore this picture! There’s something about magenta tights and short, grey dresses that I just love. Although I would’ve liked to see her in different shoes, maybe black gladiator heels or booties. Because booties are amazing.

I’m not particularly fond of the model’s hair, either……

Where on EARTH can I get me a pair of these babies?!

Sigh...

This spread was from the Vogue Dec 2007 issue, and I LOVED it. I loved that all the dresses had a sophisticated spanish feel. I love brocade and applique, so the navy and gold dress made me happy :)
I also love the navy and silver gown because it was fluffy, and satin, and had folds in all the right places (unlike the typical prom dress/wedding dress with the lame tucks all over the skirt). The red satin dress was a good thing to see because I have a crapload of good quality red satin and have no idea what to make with it yet. It looked awesome on Penelope, who happens to be one of my favorite actresses because she is so gorgeous. Not to mention that she is not the typical white girl with the pretty face, she is a spanish girl with a beautiful face.
I also found a picture of someone else wearing the navy dress with the gold applique. I am not sure who she is, and I can't say she pulls it off as well. Especially with the ugly headband she is wearing, and the tacky necklace. Whatever, it is still nice seeing the dress being worn rather than just in print.

An example of something I (Jess) made. My prom dress from prom 2009.
The top was a corset, made from light pink and gold brocade fabric with paisley designs on it, and gold lace around the top and bottom of the corset with pink ribbon. Pink and gold ribbon laced down the back.
The skirt was made out of tulle, and it is a lot lighter than I had anticipated, but only because the crinoline (which I didn't have time to make, I bought it from China) was white and had no slip over it.

Photography by Rachel Krall, who totally knows what she is doing with her camera and photoshop.

We were discussing influences for our fashion line one day and came up with a pretty good sized list. Here's what we have:

-20's-40's, 60's, some 80's
-indie, fairytale/romance
-high fashion
-renaissance-1900's royalty
-indian, native american, african, mexican, south american
-english/irish/scottish

It may seem a bit intimidating, but I'm sure everyone will something that they like, considering our list is very diverse!
I've also started on some of the jewelry for Octopie and plan on making more. There's a nautical themed bracelet with pearls and silver charms, and a bracelet with wooden beads, pearls, and feathers. :]

Amanda Coombes

Octopie will be a fashion line of all home-made stuff. All things made will be most likely not typical items (such as things sold at wal-mart or whatever), and most pieces (for now) will only be made once or twice.
It will be up and running as soon as winter break starts, as we are all in college.
An etsy account should end up being set up at some point, and a domain too. For now we have this to show our ideas and get opinions.
